Medical Direction

The Ohio State University Medical Center, Center for EMS serves the central Ohio EMS community by providing medical direction, research and educational services. Historically, OSU Medical Center has been an early leader in modern EMS, pioneering the concept of paramedics in the United States through the Heartmobile program.

A group of physicians in the OSU Department of Emergency Medicine have a vision to return OSU Medical Center to a more active role in the EMS community. Dr. Douglas Rund, chair of Emergency Medicine, along with Drs. Craig B. Key, Thomas J. Gavin, Howard A. Werman, Michael Sayre and Michael Dick actively provide medical direction in central Ohio to Upper Arlington Fire Department, Norwich Township Fire Department, Genoa Township Fire Department, Clinton Township Fire Department, Worthington Division of Fire, MedFlight of Ohio and Columbus State Community College’s Associate Degree program in Emergency Medical Services.

For additional information contact, Bill Barks, CEMS program manager, at (614) 293-5101.
