Epidemiology of Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death. Preventative modalities (screening and healthy lifestyle changes, bypass surgeries) and new therapies (public access defibrillation, therapeutic hypothermia) are being aggres-sively studied to determine what impact they may have on survival. This data will enable the documentation of a baseline survival rate in Columbus and will allow us to track changes in survival over time and with the introduction of additional strategies and therapies. The objective of this study is to establish a comprehensive database from which the epidemiology of and the survival rate from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in central Ohio can be calculated.
